Bistro By The Sea: Reviews & Ratings

Great little hideaway down by the Theatre By the Sea. We could definitely tell it was associated with Duck Press in Wakefield. Simple house cocktails to start (a bourbon smash and a twist on an Aperol spritz) followed by approachable but tasty food. Brussels and Arancini to start, Basil Pesto Fettucine and NY Strip. All were well executed, very tasty. Passed on dessert but mousse sounded decadent. Went before going to Patsy Cline (good show) but will head back just for the restaurant.

Wonderful performance of Jersey Boys. We left the theatre smiling and lighthearted! Abby said that it was the best Reuben she ever had and my scallops were delicious. Menu items and drinks were fairly priced. But the best thing was that we ENJOYED dinner because we knew that we were already at Matunuck Theatre by the Sea. Last year we ate at a local oyster bar, service was delayed, we got caught in traffic and both the dinner and the show were compromised for us. You should advertise more the comfort that comes with eating at Bravo before the show! Greg and Abby

My husband and I had a fantastic experience at Bistro tonight! The hostess, our server, and food runner were all delightful. Joelle, our server, was cheerful and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious: the fried Brussels sprouts appetizer was generous and perfectly seasoned, my cioppino was amazing and I especially loved the mussels and sea bass, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his beef brisket grilled cheese. We will definitely be returning to Bistro! Kudos to the management and chef!

First time dining here since moving to the area, and we were pleasantly surprised. Based on our experience, it seems many of the older negative reviews may reflect a previous management team. The food and service exceeded expectations — definitely worth giving it a try. We’ll be back!

Nestled along the scenic coast of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Bistro By The Sea offers a charming culinary retreat just steps from the renowned Theatre By the Sea. This cozy spot bears the hallmark quality of Duck Press in Wakefield, delivering a menu that is both approachable and refined. From the first sip of a house-crafted bourbon smash or Aperol spritz, you know you’re in for an authentic experience.

The kitchen excels in balancing simplicity with bold flavor. Starters like crispy Brussels sprouts and golden Arancini set the tone—each bite carefully executed and deeply satisfying. The main courses maintain that standard: a vibrant basil pesto fettucine serenades the palate with fresh herbs, while the New York strip steak arrives perfectly cooked, tender, and rich. Seafood offerings, such as cioppino loaded with tender mussels and flaky sea bass, showcase the ocean’s bounty and the chef’s finesse. Even comfort dishes like the beef brisket grilled cheese are elevated beyond expectation.

What truly sets Bistro By The Sea apart is the seamless marriage of excellent food with attentive, cheerful service. Guests often highlight the warmth and effort of the staff, enhancing the overall dining atmosphere. It’s a place where every detail, from cocktail to dessert (the mousse is notably decadent), feels thoughtfully crafted.

Its proximity to Matunuck Theatre not only makes it a perfect pre-show dining destination but creates a relaxed rhythm where guests can enjoy a memorable meal without the stress of delays or traffic. Here, food complements entertainment, inviting diners to savor both with ease. With its revived management and consistently glowing reviews, Bistro By The Sea stands out as a must-visit culinary gem on Rhode Island’s shore.
